Our products are made from clay and organic minerals. The final product owing to its Clay and Mineral composition, as well as handcrafting process, is either called ‘Fine Stoneware’ or ‘Ironstone’.
We follow a sustainable handcrafting process for the manufacturing of our dinnerware. All raw materials are organically sourced and processed in a recycle-reduce-reuse production method. The process is handmade, with the help of basic equipment and machinery that is used to offer better strength and uniformity to the process. The products are fired in batch kilns to minimize fuel consumption. We produce zero waste and sequester our carbon output through afforestation and regenerative farming, to achieve our goal of Net Zero production.
We design our products in BC, Canada and manufacture them in our micro-factory located in a remote indigenous village in South India, called Mulluru. The micro-factory is built sustainably and offers sustenance and livelihood to over 50 indigenous families from 5 neighboring villages. Each Nugu product is designed, crafted, packed and delivered to your homes through our in-house team of designers, crafters and managers. We take pride in our work as unlike many traders in the market, we are makers and genuinely interested in crafting and bringing stunning, strong and sustainable dinnerware for you.
Our products are made of natural organic materials and all our glazes are made in-house with organic food safe minerals. All our products are Lead, Selenium and Cadmium free. We also fire each product twice and our glaze firing is to a very high temperature, that renders all our glazes inert and completely food safe. We got an extra step and coat our ceramic ware with extra coting of non particles that makes them anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. We can proudly say that our dinnerware is one of the safest material to eat from.
Our dinnerware requires minimum effort in maintenance. Since we specialize in crafting for commercial kitchens, our products have gone through the rigorous testing to survive the rough commercial kitchens. They can easily be cleaned by any detergent or dishwasher. They are microwave, oven, and freezer safe.
Most of our glazes are handmade, organic and reactive glazes that react differently basis their position in the kiln. The final product have different shades of the actual color and also break into slightly different colors on the edges or bottom of the products. This is a property as well as beauty of handmade stoneware. The glaze and product appearance would be different from your bone-china, porcelain or even factory-made stoneware collections. If you are looking for handmade-organic-sustainable imperfections, as you find in the natural environment, then our product is for you.
In ceramics scratches depend on the type of glaze used on the product. Very matte glazes have the tendency to be scratched by cutlery. We do not use 100% matte glazes and instead use Satin Matte glazes or Glossy Glazes on our products as they tend to be longer lasting. Our endeavor is to craft products that can last a lifetime in your homes.
